Thousands of homeless animals are euthanized each year, due to overpopulation and a lack of space within state shelters. There are some wonderful organizations where the volunteers devote their lives and love to saving, and caring for homeless pets that would otherwise be euthanized. Many operate on donations alone, and are in need of funding and supplies. We are just starting to put a list together of some groups that are in need. Helping is easy; most offer the ability to donate online . If you would like to see a rescue group on our list, just send an e-mail to info@kitten-smitten.com.
The Cat House on the Kings is California's largest no-cage, no-kill, lifetime cat sanctuary and adoption center. Our mission is to place rescued cats and kittens into loving, permanent homes; to provide a safe, happy and healthy home for unwanted cats and kittens in a unique, no-cage facility; to prevent pet overpopulation through spaying and neutering; and to educate the public about responsible pet ownership.Lynea Lattanzio, who founded and runs The Cat House on the Kings, talks about how it came about and gives you a peek into our unique environment in this video created by Jack Perez. The Cat House is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation, receives no government or public funding, and relies entirely on donations from the public to carry out its mission.Since its founding 19 years ago, The Cat House on the Kings has saved over 18,000 cats and 5,000 dogs (not counting the 40,000 animals we have spayed and neutered!) and currently cares for more than 700 cats and kittens, a dozen or so dogs and a handful of goats, who earn their keep as lawnmowers!Cat House on the Kings7120 S. Kitty Harbor’s specific and ongoing mission is the rescue, rehabilitation, and placement of homeless and neglected cats and kittens. At Kitty Harbor, cats of all ages live together in a large, open, indoor-outdoor area, not locked up in cages. In this free-roaming habitat, kitties are free to run around, play with the numerous cat toys, chase each other up and down a veritable forest of cat trees, get lots of attention from our volunteers, and nap just about anywhere they like. As a result, the kitties become well socialized, very friendly, and develop great personalities.Since we are a non-profit organization, none of the small but dedicated family of volunteers at Kitty Harbor are paid for the work we do here. We exist solely through gracious donations of time, supplies, food, medicine, veterinary services, foster homes, and the small fee we receive from the adoption of each kitty.Kitty Harbor - Seattle3422 Harbor Avenue SWSeattle, WA 98126Follow Kitty Harbor on Facebook & Twitter
Felicia & Felix were rescued by LOKRLittle Orphans Kitten Rescue, Inc. (LOKR – or “Looker”) is a nonprofit non-sheltering rescue group established in July 2011. Our primary mission is to provide care and find adoptive homes for orphaned newborn kittens. Kittens we take in would normally be euthanized by shelters because of the constant attention required to give them proper care. LOKR accepts kittens rescued from feral cats, those found by caring people, or are too young for shelters and other rescues to care for. When space in our foster care program permits, we will also accept kittens that have been abandoned by owners at local veterinary clinics. We give these kittens a chance at a long, happy life.Bottle-babies need to be fed every few hours, bathed almost daily, and shown plenty of affection so that they grow up well-adjusted and well-socialized. If you adopt a kitten from Little Orphans Kitten Rescue, you can be sure you are welcoming a happy, healthy, highly sociable kitten into your family! All CLAWS cats are also tested for FIV, some of which occasionally test positive. If that is the case, that information will ALWAYS be included in the cat's description. Any cat with FIV will be listed as a special needs cat and can only be adopted to homes without other cats or homes with only FIV positive cats, offering them a chance for a happy life.
